The business needed a website but I couldn’t afford to commit alot of time to coming up with ideas of style and imagery myself. I knew I had to spend some money but time was the biggest issue. Running the cafe leaves me with no extra time and so I had to have someone that understood exactly what the issues were and how to resolve them.
After meeting with Ian and throwing my thoughts ‘out there’ I felt that he had got a real handle on what I wanted but most importantly, what would work. The cafe is a tricky one because, yes its a seaside cafe, but its fun and friendly serving up very high quality food and not the normal common or garden establishment. My biggest concern with any web designer was that they wouldn’t be able to convey the unique vibe that Puckpool Tea Gardens has and it could end up feeling too twee or too ‘bucket and spade. Ian sat with us, went through our menus, photos and spoke to the staff and visitors to get under the skin of the place. Only then did he start the design process.
At this point I had only given him the logo and a rough idea of what I thought would look nice. He took that onto the blank canvas and crafted something that reflects us and the Cafe perfectly and it was 100% what I had hoped it would be. Additionally he created and integrated the website to our facebook page which has helped generate additional visitors not only to the site but to the cafe. From a point of view of administration he spent a day here training us on how to update the site ourself which we have found to be hugely beneficial.
The crowning glory was the explanation and implementation of the search engine strategy and since May 2011 which was only 4 weeks after the website launched, we have enjoyed top 3 rankings in all of the major search engines with the phrases that we wanted. The whole experience was real pleasure and his continued support has been excellent.
