A new entry for the Love Bath Film Comp 2011
Ah yes the ‘Love Bath Film Competition’ is on us once again so we thought we’d dust off the box brownie and get filming. Unfortunately what we did shoot proved to be far too long for the time allocated. This left us with a full hard drive and a dilemma. Re-think and Re-shoot? Or edit to death and crack on?

Facebook news scroller privacy problem
Facebook recently rolled out a news ticker or scroller on the right hand side of the site. Now it’s a pearler if you want to really keep up with absolutely everything in the world if you’ve nothing better to do but there is a gaping hole in it. The bottom line is this: You don’t have control.

Ravey Davey mix
Short and sweet this one but nonetheless a medium sized portion of rave anthem pie. Enjoy 3 Blind mice with their show stopper ‘Bombscare’ and enjoy as we work our way through to ‘Way in my brain’. Finally House of Pain finish up with a little treat at the end bringing us up to modern times.

Ian to host Peasedowns Party in the Park
If ever you wanted a cheesy ‘alright m’darlin’ showbiz pic to accompany a press release here it is. I was asked some time ago by the deputy leader of BANES Council if I’d take the mic in hand and be the MC for the up and coming Party in the Park in Peasedown.

Weekend workout – Uplifting mix podcast
No stranger to the decks I thought it was about time I dug out some of my old CDs and give them the heave ho. Some were pony and some were brill. I stumbled across a collection of mixes that were recorded live at Woodys and Temptation. So here foot tapping friends is the first of a few. Hands in the air and off we go!
Old Bath FM podcast with Rik Mayall
As I was going through some old files with the recycle bin on a very high state of standby, I stumbled across this cheeky little number hidden away in the wrong folder. It was myself and John Watson getting up to all sorts of shennanighans on air so thought I’d post it up.
Bath Radio Licence decision
Its one of the biggest decisions that will effect the City of Bath and speculation is rife on who it could end up with. Ofcom’s Radio Licensing Committee are coming to the end of their decision making process and next week we’ll all know who takes on, what has affectionately become a poison chalice.

Pete Doherty at Bristol Academy
The first thing I noticed was how tall Mr D was. Quite a gangly individual with no obvious control of direction or gravity. Nonetheless here I was sat upon his tour bus meeting with a dear friend. Media stories not withstanding, I found Peter to be a very amiable and charming chap that didn’t live up to his tabloid reputation. However this was at the start of the gig and it was a long night.

iPhone Tracker application
As reported last week those scallywags at Apple are able to watch your every move with the secretive tracking code that is placed on the iPhone. The true contents of the file called “consolidated.db” were discovered by two British software developers who were working on ways of visualising location data for websites.

Puckpool Tea Gardens site launched
It’s always a pleasure to be involved in a project that the owner oozes passion and humour about so www.puckpoolteagardens.com was a blast for me too. I was given free range with regards to design so long as it communicated the fun, food and features that Puckpool Tea Gardens has to offer.

Smiley Culture RIP
Being a huge fan of the early days of Hip Hop, its extremely sad to hear of the demise of the legend that was Smiley Culture. He has died after allegedly stabbing himself in the heart during a police raid on his home. Sources said the musician – real name David Emmanuel – killed himself after officers swooped on his home in east Surrey.

Bath Radio licence application
Since the shenanigans at Bath FM started I have been in constant contact with OFCOM on a number of issues, one being the re-advertising of the Bath licence. I was actually working on a community based radio project when the licence was officially re-advertised and it was a case of all hands on deck and that got put on hold. Before committing to such a serious consideration, some ground work had to be done first to test the water so here’s what happened. Get a brew on, it’s a long story.

Air war and assault – Gulf 1991
This is just to lay down some thoughts and views of what it felt like to be under the air war on the nights and days of the 17th / 18th / 19th.

Gunfire and grenades – The first contact
The first 3 rounds hit the oil drum with a familiar metallic resonance, in quick succession, one after the other they let me know business had started. Caught off guard and now crouched in my insanely open fire position I could tell they had gone left to right, slightly higher each time.
Gulf War 1991 – Jan 20th – Day 74
Today being the 20th of January and much the same I’m afraid. Woody had to go to Trunk Node 031 to get some fills for our secret comms kit so I was on shift. Of course being Ptarmigan kit, it failed abysmally and the software was tits up. This meant Woody would have to go a further 30kms across the desert to Trunk Node 063 the next day. Until then, no comms! Sun cream on to watch the bombs drop and the choppers flying.

Gulf feature in The Bath Chronicle
The very lovely Siobhan Prideaux at The Bath Chronicle decided that it would be a good thing to bring some of the stories from 20 years ago to the forefront of peoples minds. The Gulf War is often eclipsed by the second Gulf War of 2003 and is way back in peoples thoughts whilst the hostilities in Afghanistan are so prevalent.

Gulf War 1991 – Jan 18th – Day 72
January 18 – Day 72, totally shattered now, we’ve not slept properly since it all kicked off in the early hours of the 17th. Our generator was a right mess and needed de-coking so Woody took care of that today. We’ve been in NBC suits all the time so are sweating buckets. Today we both worked on our air raid shelter.

20 years to the day – Gulf War starts
At this exact time and day 20 years ago, Woody and I put on our NBC suits, donned our respirators and waited for the kick off. For many this will mean nothing but for us, our buddies in 21 Signal Regiment ( AS ) and all the other troops a long way from home, it was the beginning of the Mother of all wars.

Walk the Wight 2010
Stood atop the campest flatbed in the world, blowing a gale, it was hardly the best Sunday morning you could have wished for. However, it was all for a great cause. I was asked to take mic in hand at the Needles pleasure park to welcome the walkers in at this years Walk the Wight. Its a monster of an event and up to around 12,000 people took party. That’s around 1 in every 10 Islanders.
Matt Splatt, Macmillan Head Shave

Laser / SWR / YMC – Help is at hand

Bath FM closed at Station House
At 09:52 on 25th of March 2010 I walked into Bath FM for the first time in 14 months. It was akin to walking around the body of a person that was once full of fun, laughter and pride but due to such a lack of care and attention, it’s been reduced to a sad, dirty, rotting corpse of a station.
