Gulf War 1991

A tribute to the Red Arrows – Heroes of the skies

It’s every schoolboys dream to become a Red Arrow. At least it was for me. The problem was, I was cack at maths and my brain isn’t wired up that way. Having served in the Army for 10 years, a lot of the time attached to the RAF, when you hear such sad news as what happened to Flt LT Jon Egging and only a day ago, Flight Lieutenant Sean Cunningham.  Well, you feel like you’ve lost an old friend.

Air war and assault – Gulf 1991

This is just to lay down some thoughts and views of what it felt like to be under the air war on the nights and days of the 17th / 18th / 19th.

Gunfire and grenades – The first contact

Our generator was a right mess and needed de-coking so Woody took care of that today. We’ve been in NBC suits all the time so are sweating buckets. Today we both worked on our air raid shelter.

20 years to the day – Gulf War starts

At this exact time and day 20 years ago, Woody and I put on our NBC suits, donned our respirators and waited for the kick off. For many this will mean nothing but for us, our buddies in 21 Signal Regiment ( AS ) and all the other troops a long way from home, it was the beginning of the Mother of all wars.
